Abstract
Trichomoniasis affects both women and men and is the most common nonviral sexually transmitted infection, with prevalence estimates greater than those of Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis. Trichomoniasis is an underreported sexually transmitted infection, and screening methods are relatively insensitive. The risk of men with trichomoniasis who remain asymptomatic increases the risk of partner reinfection and disease transmission. Provider/patient communication and increased patient education make the primary care setting ideal for early recognition and prevention of recurrent trichomoniasis infections.
