Abstract
Body piercing has become increasingly popular in the United States. Piercing is performed on persons of all ages and backgrounds. It is important for primary care providers to be educated about these piercings so they know what complications to anticipate. Patients also may have questions about various piercings. This article discusses a variety of piercings and their potential complications. Included are suggestions for care, a literature review, and a case study of an infected tongue piercing.
