Abstract

•Destruction of refractory concrete by low level laser.•Influence of refractories sintering temperature on destruction level.•Measuring of damage size by mechanical comparator and image analysis.•Best results show the samples sintered at 1600 °C.

Low level laser (LLL) was applied to induct destruction of the low cement high alumina refractory concrete (LCC) samples. Three different series of samples were used in the experiment: a reference one dried at 105 °C, sintered at 1300 °C and sintered at 1600 °C. Level of destruction during time interval from 5 to 25 min was monitored by measuring surface and depth of damage. Obtained results shown that minimal level of destruction was observed for the samples sintered at 1600 °C for the whole time interval.
