Abstract

Suicide assessment in the adolescent population is challenging for many primary care providers who may lack knowledge and experience in mental health assessment, resulting in suboptimal suicide risk assessment and suboptimal treatment for adolescents who are depressed and contemplating suicide. The purpose of this manuscript is to update evidence-based best practice for pediatric primary care providers related to suicide assessment, including prevalence, risk factors, risk assessment, screening tools, management, and preventive strategies.
