Abstract
Bicuspid aortic valve disease (BAV) is the most common congenital cardiac anomaly, occurring in approximately 2% of the population. Adult patients frequently present in the fifth or sixth decade of life and may be identified during routine physical examination. BAV can cause aortic stenosis, aortic insufficiency, or endocarditis, and may be associated with other findings, such as ascending aortic aneurysm or aortic coarctation. This article provides an overview of the disease process and appropriate evaluation and management of this patient population.
