Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is seen more frequently in primary care environments, and nurse practitioners must be proficient and savvy in diabetes management. This article reviews the incidence of diabetes in the United States and provides a synopsis of selected clinical practice guidelines set forth by the American Diabetic Association (ADA). This information should serve as a primer for nurse practitioners working on the front line of primary care.
