Abstract
Prediabetes is defined as impaired fasting plasma glucose or impaired glucose tolerance, with increased risk for development of type 2 diabetes. An estimated 54 million people have prediabetes in the United States, and this figure is increasing. Therefore, it is imperative to search for strategies that halt the progression to type 2 diabetes. This article reviews and compares pharmacological agents, lifestyle modifications, and other interventions that can be used to treat prediabetes.
