Abstract
Osteoporosis, the most common bone disease, is a silent condition that affects milions of Americans. Fractures in individuals over the age of 50 can be the first sign of weak bones from osteoporosis. Many osteoporotic fractures can be prevented and treated. Healthy lifestyle choices such as proper diet, exercise, and medications can help prevent further bone loss and reduce the risk of fractures. Perianesthesia nurses have numerous opportunities to promote healthy behaviors for patients, family members, and themselves.
