Despite advanced biomedical knowledge, the United States continues to experience wide variation in healthcare quality and outcomes, and unprecedented healthcare costs.1 and 2 With healthcare spending expected to reach 20% of the nation's gross domestic product by 2015,1 most understand and support the need for health system reform that includes accountable care organizations.
