Abstract

Several years ago, a group of visionaries from academia, health care, and business asked themselves what kind of legacy they might leave for nursing and patient care. At the time, measuring patient outcomes was becoming crucial, increasingly tied to pay for performance. Information technology was offering new tools and systems for creating and managing the burgeoning amount of data necessary to care for patients. Surely nursing, with its patient care mission, should play a major role in these developments.
