Abstract
The professional, hospital-based nurse is quickly becoming a rare commodity. The impending nursing shortage has caused many organizations to re-evaluate the imperative role of the bedside nurse. It takes an extremely dedicated, intelligent, and flexible person to withstand the daily demands of patients, physicians, peers, and family members in the hospital setting. The job is often stressful and difficult. Though at times, hospital nursing is very rewarding, nurses are not getting the support they need in order to perform these demanding jobs.
