Abstract
The number of United States citizens who are 65 years of age or older is expected to continue to grow dramatically over the next several decades. It is estimated the number of people age 65 years and older will exceed 53 million by 2020 and 75 million by 2040. As a result, this segment of the population will require medical interventions as they live longer. More interventions to promote healthier and more comfortable lifestyles in the aging process, as well as life-saving procedures, will be required. The improved technology and procedures will require all of health care to change and remain current with education and skills to provide quality of care to the aging population. The number of health care providers will need to grow with the increased numbers of patients in need.
