Abstract
Creating a place for perioperative nursing in graduate programs can be challenging but rewarding for the hospital, student, and instructor. Adding perioperative content into an existing academic program is possible, and doing so allows students to focus on their chosen specialty. A higher education degree, such as a master's degree in nursing or a doctorate, benefits the nurse. Ultimately, nurses who attain higher education degrees benefit every health care institution in which they serve.
