Abstract
I can remember my father falling from a beam at work when I was a child. He was knocked unconscious and sustained a fractured femur and pelvis. A week later he was delivered home to us by ambulance with a full leg cast that went from ankle to hip. I also remember he was no longer the sweet gentleman I had once known. He seemed much more irritable, slept a lot, and would say or do things that my brother and I thought were strange. It wasn't until years later, when I became a nurse, that I realized he had sustained a head injury that had never been addressed.
