Abstract
This article shows the different parameters of devices, which influence the examination of the brain supplying arteries. Doppler- and duplexsonography are reproducible, non-invasive and economic bed side methods, which are mainly used to diagnose stenosis and occlusions of vessels . Since Dopplersonography demonstrates hemodynamic aspects, duplexsonography in addition gives morphologic informations, e.g. on arteriosclerosis, thrombosis or inflammation. Basic knowledge of the different methods including the pitfalls and adjustment of the devices are prerequisites for reliable ultrasound diagnosis and necessary to judge the advantages and disadvantages.
