Abstract

This paper presents the development of response spectra plots for inelastic degrading structural systems subjected to seismic excitations. New constitutive models for degrading structures are defined and calibrated against experimental data. A set of earthquake records is selected for the study, and scaling effects of the records are investigated for degrading systems. Incremental Dynamic Analyses of several degrading structures with different material models are conducted in order to evaluate the effect of degradation on the response. These analyses were used to develop R–μ–TR–μ–T relationships for degrading structures. The relationships were subsequently used to construct constant ductility response spectra plots for degrading systems. Finally conclusions regarding the behavior and collapse potential of different structural systems are drawn.
