Abstract
The primary purpose of this article is to stimulate scientific inquiry into alternative means of reducing stress, pain, and anxiety for patients, visitors, and staff. The extent and potential value of these concepts may appreciably augment current therapies for patients. The influence of psychoacoustics and control of ambient noise floor for visitors and nursing staff has not been explored. Understanding the influence, or lack of influence, of these measures will substantiate the evidence needed for future designs in health care facilities.
