Abstract
Protecting patients and staff members from the transmission of communicable disease is of critical importance in any health care setting. In the operating room, the potential for transmission of infections such as tuberculosis spread through the airborne route is high. Managers of the perioperative setting must be prepared to safely and effectively manage patients who are known to have a communicable disease such as tuberculosis who require an emergency surgical procedure.
