Abstract
Student guidelines that are specific to patient populations in clinical units can provide a welcomed specificity to planning nursing care. When these guidelines also interrelate with previous learning, such as nursing diagnoses, nursing interventions, classifications, and nursing outcomes, they add reinforcement and reassurance for learners who can be easily distracted in new clinical environments. The Perioperative Nursing Data Set provides a standardized language for use with perioperative patients to meet patient-focused outcomes that reflect use of nursing diagnoses, interventions, and outcomes.
