Abstract
The role of the advanced practice nurse (APN) in nursing research continues to expand and offer many opportunities to positively influence patient outcomes. This article presents an overview of several roles that the APN can develop to foster nursing research. These roles include coordinating, consolidating, conducting, consulting, and committing to research in nursing. Research-based practice-the ultimate goal of all research activities-can be fostered if research is made a priority within the various responsibilities of the APN.
