ZusammenfassungSakkaden sind schnelle Augenbewegungen, die es uns erlauben, unseren Blick auf Objekte unseres Interesses auszurichten und diese Objekte dadurch einer visuellen Detailanalyse zu unterziehen. Die Anatomie und Physiologie des sakkadischen Systems wurde umfangreich charakterisiert, so dass es gerne als Modellsystem herangezogen wird, um die neuronalen Mechanismen der Bewegungskontrolle zu studieren. Das präzise Wissen um die funktionelle Organisation des sakkadischen Systems wiederum liefert wertvolle topodiagnostische und systemphysiologische Informationen bei der neurologischen Untersuchung. Die vorliegende Arbeit gibt einen Überblick über die Anatomie und Physiologie des sakkadischen Systems, die klinische und labortechnische Untersuchung von Sakkaden sowie typische klinische Befundkonstellationen.

SummarySaccades are rapid eye movements that redirect the fovea from one object of interest to another. A great deal has been learned about the anatomy and physiology of saccades, making them an ideal system for studying the neural control of movement. Precise knowledge of the functional organisation of the saccadic system, on the other hand, is extremely valuable in order to gain topodiagnostic information on neurologic examination. This article provides a review of the anatomy and neurophysiology of the saccadic system, describes principles of the clinical and technical examination of saccades, and presents typical examples of saccadic disturbances in neurological disease.
