Abstract

A bilinear pole-shifting technique with H∞H∞ control method is proposed for the dynamic response control of large structures. The proposed control method is a direct pole-placing design approach which can make the structural systems have a certain target damping ratio. The performance requirement is considered as a target damping ratio. And a bilinear transform is adopted to locate the closed-loop poles in a specific region within the H∞H∞ controller design framework. The relationship between the closed-loop poles and the transform parameters is derived as a quadratic form, which leads to a new non-iterative design procedure. Moreover, robust control features can be incorporated within the H∞H∞ robust control framework. Thus, the proposed technique effectively combines the desirable features of pole placement and H∞H∞ control method. To prove the validity of the proposed control method, example designs and numerical simulations of earthquake-excited ten-story buildings are performed and comparative results are presented.
