Abstract
Electrosurgery is the most commonly used technique in the operating room. Injuries associated with electrosurgery range in nature from mild to fatal. Risks have been reduced by perioperative personnel recognizing the risks inherent with electrosurgery, demanding increased safety features for electrosurgery, and requiring ongoing education. Perioperative management of the electrosurgery risks contributes to safer perioperative practices, resulting in fewer patient injuries. Most unintended surgical injuries from electrosurgery can be prevented.
