Abstract
Competency is the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to fulfill the professional role functions of the registered nurse in the perioperative arena. Electrosurgery is used in 85% of all surgical procedures. Safe nursing practice during electrosurgery with careful documentation can contribute to positive patient outcomes. Proper care and handling of electrosurgical equipment is essential to patient and personnel safety. The most effective safety system in electrosurgery is a knowledgeable doctor, nurse, and product support personnel.
