Abstract
Risk assessment is carried out mainly for substances used in the manufacture of materials. For getting an authorisation on a new substance to be used in Food Contact Materials, the manufacturer should submit a risk assessment dossier to the considered authority - in France to the “Direction Générale de la Concurrence, de la Consommation et de la Répression des Fraudes” (DGCCRF). The scientific evaluation is carried out through the expert panel “Food Contact Materials“ of AFSSA (French Food Safety Agency) or EFSA according to the considered national or European regulation. For its part, AFSSA has carried out several of such appraisals and some of them have led to the establishment of guidelines sometimes included in French regulations.
