Abstract
Working condition in hospital need indicating factors in order to reduce psychosocial and organisational factors at work (POW factors) and improve prevention. The aim of the study is the development of an easy methodological implement of PWO factors evaluation. On the basis of a French version of the Revised Nursing Work Index (RNWI) questionnaire, we add new dimensions unexplored by the RNWI that are related to management in medical units, organisation and in which corrective actions are possible. A prospective cohort of 4631 health care workers (nurses and healthcare assistants) from seven University Hospitals in France and 250 randomised clinical units was conducted during one year (2006). Reproducibility and internal consistency of each dimension of the new RNWI-F questionnaire were observed. Statistical links between the eight dimensions of RNWI-F and more objective data (as ergonomic task observations) are also demonstrated. The measurement of change in health state, in 2008, compared to data from the 2006 questionnaire will allow the validation of the prognostic value of the questionnaire.
