RésuméL'effet du manque d'oxygène sur le métabolisme a été largement étudié in vitro et chez l'animal, mais peu chez l'homme. Cette revue analyse la littérature concernant des situations pathologiques et physiologiques caractérisées par une exposition chronique à l'hypoxie, en particulier chez les patients souffrant d'une insuffisance respiratoire chronique et chez les sujets sains vivant en haute altitude. Ces derniers offrent un modèle de comparaison particulièrement intéressant car ils ne présentent pas les complications intercurrentes habituellement observées chez les patients porteurs d'une insuffisance respiratoire chronique. Cela permet d'apprécier l'effet exclusif de l'hypoxie sur l'organisme de l'homme sain et enrichir les connaissances encore insuffisantes chez l'homme malade.
The effect of oxygen in modulating metabolism has been largely investigated in vitro and in animal studies, but very little in humans. This paper focuses on recent literature regarding pathological and physiological situations characterized by chronic exposure to hypoxia, particularly in patients with chronic respiratory insufficiency and in healthy subjects staying at high altitude. The latest allow for very interesting comparison because they do not experience comorbidities observed in patients with chronic respiratory insufficiency and therefore provide a unique model to assess the specific effect of hypoxia on human body and metabolism.
