Abstract
Small-bowel disruption with a double enterostomy may induce a type 1 short bowel syndrome with a severe intestinal failure. Parenteral hydratation and nutrition are made necessary by important intestinal losses. Succus entericus reinfusion is a technique which restores the entire digestive function, using the out-of-circuit distal intestinal tract by an extracorporeal chyme circulation. Collected from the afferent stomy, the chyme is immediately injected in the efferent bowel without handling, with a specific pump. Patients are thus fed on what they eat, they have no hydro-electrolytic disorder and parenteral nutrition is stopped in a few days. Chyme reinfusion is feasible at home by using specific portable pumps, while patients are waiting for surgical bowel repair. They must be self-willing patients receiving a therapeutic education.
