Abstract
The nystagmus constitutes a group of abnormal eye movements which can be due to various mechanisms including abnormal central visual fixation, abnormal central or peripheral gaze stabilization. These different mechanisms may be the consequence of a lesion of the eyes or of the inner ear, a specific pathology involving the optic or vestibular nerves. They can be the consequence of a lesion affecting different integrators located in the brainstem and the cerebellum and their connecting pass ways. It is important to be able to locate a possible peripheral or central disorder in order to establish its cause and initiate an appropriate treatment possible.
