Abstract
The orthoptic assessment of a patient with nystagmus aims to study the visual capacities on the optomotor, sensory as well as functional plans. The purpose of an orthoptic assessment, is firstly, to propose a treatment aiming to improve the visual function of the patient as a whole (and more frequently, it is the optimisation of visual acuity and decrease in the attitude of the head) and secondly when no etiology has previously been determined, the assessment allows the doctor to orient their diagnosis and if necessary to request further examinations.
