Michael A. Lemp, MD, founding editor of The Ocular Surface, has been a leader in the fields of cornea and dry eye disease since the late 1960s. During his fellowship under Claes Dohlman, he was an author of some the earliest papers on quantitative disorders of the tear film. A leader as well as a researcher, he was instrumental in putting together the two consensus panels that have shaped ocular surface research for the last 15 years: the National Eye I nstitute/Industry Workshop on Clinical Trials in Dry Eye and the International Dry Eye WorkShop.In addition to his extensive work furthering ocular surface research, Dr. Lemp is well known for his passion for improving the lives of others through ophthalmology. This is evidenced by his role as a teacher and mentor to many residents and fellows over the years, as well as his extensive work as a volunteer around the world.
