Abstract
Orthosis is an essential component of the medical management for children with neuromuscular disorders. It largely contributes to the prevention of orthopaedic and respiratory complications (Consensus Conference Recommendations, September 2001). Concerning trunk orthosis, the “corset garchois” is commonly used for young children with severe forms. Posture correctors and verticalisation braces are mainly used for lower limbs. Recently many progresses have been made, especially in taking measurements, materials, functionality, and the “look”. To this date, some problems can be better solved (head position control, scapular stabilization), and are justifying the continuation of applied research. From prescription to realization then follow-up, a close cooperation with parents and children for finding the “good compromise” is the objective.
