Abstract
The WHO asks doctors to add life onto years before adding years to life. There are many obstacles on this task. But most of them find their origin in one: the fatalism. The fatalism of the patient who thinks that his life is ending and that the least the better; the one of proxies who think that being ill is normal at that age. Finally, the fatalism of the doctor who thinks that he can neither help the patient to feel better, nor even persuade him that he can feel better. The geriatrician is the doctor who must know the efficient treatments to old polypathological subject, but also the obstacles he will encounter on the way to the best possible care for the patient. There are many at stake: successful ageing, the one everybody wishes to experience!
