Abstract
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) in children occurs on a developing brain, with the potential to disrupt myelination and synaptogenesis, which exacerbates the importance of neuropsychological sequelae. The objective of this study is to report our experience in the management of children who have suffered from a TBI by studying the family and school impact of these sequelae. This is a retrospective study of children under 16 years who were hospitalized for the first time in the service of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the National Orthopaedic Kassab Institute for rehabilitation treatment after TBI between January 2008 and December 2013. Children with a history of mental retardation, congenital or acquired encephalopathy were excluded from this study. For each child, we specified data interrogation and clinical examination (before and during admission to our service) and the data of revaluation. These patients presented motor but also cognitive sequelae, without forgetting the family impact. The management of these patients must be comprehensive, regular and multidisciplinary.
