Abstract
In Algeria as elsewhere, hemiplegia is a major cause of disability. Many instruments have been proposed to measure the functional impact. The Barthel index is probably the most widely used. None of the proposed tools however distinguish between the four dimensions constituting disability. An assessment of each of these dimensions is however necessary to adapt the rehabilitation program to the patient's specific situation. As is demonstrated in this study, Handitest is a polyvalent test perfectly adapted to the hemiplegic population. This instrument is reliable and user friendly, enabling fine-tuned functional analysis greatly contributing to prognostic assessment.
