Abstract
High field strength MRI provides a higher Signal Noise Ratio (SNR) than lower field strength systems. This advantage could be useful for reducing the acquisition times in breast MRI. However, a greater benefit consists in translating the higher SNR into improved spatial resolution by using high imaging matrices and reducing the slice thickness. A higher spatial resolution could improve morphologic analysis according to the Breast Imaging Report and Data Systems (BI-RADS) lexicon and therefore breast lesion characterization. The operators have to become familiar with the new technical challenges specific to high field strength. Patient care must be revised according to new constraints.
