Abstract
The Welch Memorial Lecture was established in 1951 to honour Mr. Herbert M. Welch, one of the pioneer members of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT). Mr. Welch was also president of the association from 1949 to 1950. To be chosen to deliver this lecture is considered an honour, which is bestowed upon a member of the CAMRT who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession at a national level. The Welch Memorial Lecture is the focal point of the CAMRT Annual General Conference and reflects the outstanding contribution and experience demonstrated by the recipient of this award. This year, the Welch Lecture was delivered in Quebec City, Quebec, by Lindy Kirkwood. Please note that we have reproduced the speech, and that it has not been peer reviewed as with the rest of the scientific articles published in the Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences.
