Abstract
A gossypiboma (or textiloma) is the surgical term given to a foreign body, usually in the abdominal cavity, or a tumour with a cotton matrix that causes a negative reaction to a foreign body. The literature is scarce due to conflicts of professional ethics. The common feature is the presence of gas within the lesion, and over the years there is a foreign body mesenchymal reaction (granuloma). We report the case of a patient who had gossypiboma after surgery (radical hysterectomy) in her country of origin16 years ago; with ongoing clinical pain in right iliac area. It appeared as a large lymph node calcification in successive plain abdominal X-rays.
