Abstract
Benign cystic mesothelioma of the peritoneum is a benign disease characterized by the presence of multilocular cysts intra-abdominal. Less than 150Â cases were described. There is no association with asbestos exposure as malignant mesothelioma. Main symptoms are abdominal pain and abdominal pelvic mass. It frequently occurs in women of reproductive age, with a history of surgery, pelvic inflammatory disease or endometriosis. The various imaging techniques show many thin walls of cysts within the abdominal pelvic cavity without accurate diagnosis. Pathological examination therefore is necessary to confirm the diagnosis of benign cystic mesothelioma of the peritoneum. There is no consensus regarding the therapeutic management of these. The prognosis is usually good. The 5-year survival was 100%. So far, only one malignant transformation has been described. The main complication thus resides in the high potential for recurrence causing significant morbidity.
