Abstract
Breast ultrasound is a mandatory tool in breast imaging. Breast ultrasound is an adjunct tool to mammography for breast lesion characterization but also for breast cancer detection in dense breast. Various factors may induce sonographer to false images or false diagnoses, and pitfall for malignant lesions may be known by the sonographer. Technical problems are common and may be reduced by High-quality ultrasound devices. An adequate technical scanning is required: High-frequency probe, systematic breast scanning, correlation with mammogram and clinical findings. Some tools such as compound imaging are also useful. Other pitfalls linked to breast anatomy (large breast, fibrocystic disease, surgical scar…) or lesion characteristics (colloid carcinoma, lobular carcinoma…) can occur. Operator experience is critical.
