Aspect IRM d'une tumeur carcinoïde de l'ovaire (TCO) associée à un tableau de virilisation : à propos d'un cas

The authors report the case of a 74-year-old woman who had signs of virilization and in whom a left ovarian tumour was revealed by ultrasonography. The MRI examination showed three different parts to the ovarian mass: a lipid, a liquid and a solid vascularised one. Dynamic MRI with gadolinium contrast injection revealed an intense, early and persistent enhancement of the solid part of the mass. Histopathological examination of the lesion confirmed the presence of these different tissue components. Anatomopathological examination concluded that the patient had a multitissular dermoid cyst associated with a stromal carcinoid tumour of the ovary. The symptoms and signs of virilization are explained by the presence of Leydig-cell hyperplasia around the carcinoid tumour. Carcinoid tumours can be associated with virilization symptoms and should be included in the differential diagnosis of lesions presenting as an isointense signal in T2-weighted MRI sequences.
