Abstract
The authors report and discuss an observation of a Meigs' syndrome in a 56-year-old woman. The diagnosis of Meigs' syndrome was suggested due to concomitant right pleural effusion with ascitis and a right abdominal mass measuring 80Â ÃÂ 60Â mm. The serum CAÂ 125 rate was 552Â UI/ml. Surgical exploration revealed a serohematic ascitis of 1Â L without any suspicious peritoneal lesion and a bulky ovarian fibrothecoma. One month later pleural effusion disappeared and the CAÂ 125 level decreased to 43Â UI/ml. Prognosis of Meigs' syndrome is good. Surgical excision of the ovarian mass is responsible for the disappearance of pleural and peritoneal effusions.
