Abstract
Core needle biopsies are used to plan the best type of surgery to perform. Outside interventional therapeutic, diagnostic breast biopsies are level 1 procedures carried out in a simple outpatient medical environment. The BIRADS classification standardizes the indication of biopsy. The radiologist must have all radiological folders before performing the biopsy. Breast biopsies with ultrasound guidance are the most common in practice and should be favored. Since the advent of microbiopsies, instead of FNA in the diagnostic arsenal in breast pathology has declined markedly. The biopsy under ultrasound guidance is a powerful technique with a false negative rate of only 2-5%. Indications for stereotactic biopsy are the microcalcifications, mammographic opacity, distortion or asymmetric density without ultrasound images. Histological results should be systematically compared with clinical data and radiological images.
