Abstract
Indications of mammography in women younger than 40 years are different in symptomatic or non symptomatic women. For women presenting with breast symptoms, ultrasonography must be the primary imaging test. If ultrasound is negative, potential benefit of mammography is related to the degree of clinical suspicion and the age of the patient. In asymptomatic high-risk women, screening MRI must be performed. Diagnostic mammography is indicated when MRI shows a lesion. Screening mammography is indicated after normal MRI but should not be performed below 35 years.
