Abstract
Gigantomastia in the pregnancy is a breast hypertrophy secondary to pathological changes (usual epithelial hyperplasia) occurring during or after pregnancy. We report the case of a bilateral gigantomastia treated in pregnancy, to discuss the pathological mechanisms, etiopathogenic aspects, diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Gigantomastia is a benign and rare disease, of unknown etiology, which could be due to a hormonal imbalance, decreased catabolism or hypersensitivity of the target organ. Most cases of gigantomastia in the literature are associated with pregnancy or puberty and very rare cases of spontaneous gigantomastia have been identified. Due to mechanical and psychological complications related to excessive weight and volume of the breast, a fast conservative surgical treatment is required.
