Abstract

In this article, we explore the expanding role of MRI in the diagnosis and management of patients with temporal lobe epilepsy. Both conventional and more advanced MRI techniques are capable of exploring a range of physiological phenomena not available in other imaging modalities, and thus provide valuable insight into the pathophysiology underlying temporal lobe epilepsy. These techniques alone and in concert are highly sensitive and specific in detecting epileptogenic lesions and identifying patients who would potentially benefit from surgical resection.
