Abstract

ResumenIntroducción y objetivosExisten pocos estudios que revelen la incidencia de lesiones deportivas en atletas veteranos. El objetivo principal es describir el número y el tipo de lesiones durante el Campeonato de España de Atletismo 2005 para atletas veteranos.MétodosSe ha realizado un estudio estadístico descriptivo por causa de la lesión. De un total de 996 atletas participantes se realizaron un total de 40 visitas médicas (4,01%) y 26 asistencias fisioterápicas (2,61%).ResultadosDe 40 asistencias médicas, el 82,5% correspondió a varones y el 17,5% a mujeres. Las lesiones más frecuentes son las contracturas musculares (55%) y las roturas fibrilares (15%).ConclusionesEl 95% de las lesiones descritas fueron musculoesqueléticas relacionadas con la competición atlética. Alrededor del 80% se localizaron en la extremidad inferior, y el 53%, en la musculatura isquiotibial.

Introduction and objectivesThere are few data on the incidence of sports injuries in master athletes. The main purpose of this study was to determine the frequency and type of injuries occurring during a Spanish Championship for Master Athletes in 2005.MethodsA statistical, descriptive study was performed by cause of injury. Among 996 participating athletes, there were 40 medical consultations (4.01%) and 26 (2.61%) physiotherapeutic interventions.ResultsForty patients were treated (82.5% men and 17.5% women). The most common lesions were muscle strains (55%) and muscle fiber ruptures (15%).ConclusionsCompetition-related musculoskeletal injuries accounted for 95% of the lesions. Approximately 80% were localized in the thigh, and 53% in the hamstrings.
