Abstract
A protocol for functional recovery after a ligamentous ankle injury in an elite basketball player is presented. The injury was due to a twist: the anterior talofibular ligament fascicle of the external ligament of the right ankle was torn. The recovery program was divided into four stages of 4 days each. Stage 1 mainly consisted of physiotherapy, which was based on relaxation, muscling of the lower limbs and maintenance of the muscles. Stage 2 alternated the physiotherapist's work with an increase in aerobic work on an elliptical bicycle. In stage 3 the patient's functional and physiological re-adaptation was carried out. Finally, in stage 4, the player participated in team training. This protocol will be used as a reference in the recovery process after other ligamentous injuries as a method to prevent unstable ankle. The need to carry out a multidisciplinary and coordinated approach between the medical service and coaching team is highlighted.
