Abstract
Measurement of gas volume and flow is important in the field of anaesthesia and critical care. This article reviews the methods used in the clinical setting. The physical principles that underpin these measuring techniques are outlined.The measuring devices featured can be divided in those which work by directly capturing and measuring the volume of a gas, and those that exploit a physical property of a gas that changes with flow.
