Abstract
This article provides an overview of paediatric anaesthetic practice in the UK. The safe provision of paediatric anaesthesia, as recommended by the Royal College of Anaesthetists, requires the delivery of a ‘comprehensive quality service dedicated to the care of patients and the education and professional development of staff.’ The article describes the provision of paediatric services in the UK, the conduct of practical paediatric anaesthesia and the principles behind fluid management and the treatment/prophylaxis of postoperative nausea and vomiting.
